Dog Toys – Yes, You Need Them

Dog toys are more than fun for your pet; they’re essential. Dog toys can be an excellent training aid, can help your pet cope with absences from your side, and they can even help you stop your pet from chewing things they’re not supposed to.

Sure, a pet will play with just about anything but dog supplies are specifically designed for your dog and will ensure that they’re safe, non-toxic, and longer lasting than makeshift toys. Choose pet toys carefully from reputable pet supplies companies.

Training & Exercise Aid

Toys can teach your pet to fetch. Toys can be used as a reward. Dog toys are an essential pet supply for training purposes. When your pet does something favourable, just like a treat, a special toy could help show that appreciation and reinforce good behaviour.

Toys Can Help Fill Absence Gaps

Many people crate train their dog. Having special crate-only pet toys can be a great way to kill boredom. Having toys your pet, even if he or she is not kept in a crate, can play with can also help if you’re gating your dog to confine him or her to a specific area when you’re not home.

Control Your Dog’s Chewing

How can you stop a dog from chewing? You can’t, really. He or she needs to chew, especially if they’re a puppy. Some toys encourage chewing. That’s a good thing as it can help your dog satisfy his urges without ruining your house. Again, toys can be a great training aid and chew toys can be what you give your pup when he starts to chew something you don’t want him chewing --- such as furniture, shoes, or even walls.

If your dog’s chewing is unwanted, tell him, NO!” firmly. Then give him a chew toy instead and tell him “Good boy” or “Good girl” when he or she chews the toy. Your dog wants to please you and he needs to chew so this is a great way to reinforce chewing a toy rather than designer shoes!

There are some great dog toys from pet suppliers online. Some dog supplies shops will sell: balls, Frisbees, toy bones, Kongs, dog ropes, Planet Dog toys such as the Orbee Ball, an Orbee Ball with Rope, or an Orbee bone. And there are toys specifically designed for puppies, such as: teething sticks and the aforementioned toys but in smaller sizes.
